Questions practices ask

What can be used on a diabetic foot ulcer?

Lavior™ Advanced Diabetic Wound Hydrogel is a hydrogel wound dressing indicated for diabetic foot ulcers and other chronic wounds in people with diabetes, managed under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. It maintains a moist wound environment that supports autolytic debridement of dry, sloughy or necrotic tissue, absorbs small amounts of exudate and forms a physical barrier against external contaminants.

Chronic wounds should be treated as part of a plan that addresses the underlying cause, such as glycemic control, offloading, compression or revascularization.

Is there a drug-free option for diabetic wound care?

Yes. Lavior™ Advanced Diabetic Wound Hydrogel is plant-based, formulated with AGS-RIED™ botanical extract, and contains no antibiotics and no steroids. It acts by physical means only: moisture, absorption of light exudate and a protective barrier.

Has Lavior’s diabetic wound hydrogel been studied?

Yes. Lavior™ Diabetic Wound Hydrogel was studied in the RENEW study, a prospective, double-blinded, randomized controlled, multicenter trial of 65 patients across 5 U.S. wound care centers, published in the Journal of Wound Care in July 2025.

Which wounds is it indicated for?

In people with diabetes: diabetic foot ulcers and other diabetic ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, arterial ulcers, pressure ulcers and injuries (Stages I–IV), partial- and full-thickness wounds, surgical incisions, skin tears, minor cuts and abrasions, and first- and second-degree burns. It is not for third-degree burns, heavily exuding wounds, infected wounds or bite wounds.

How is it applied?

Cleanse the wound with sterile saline or a suitable wound cleanser, apply a thin layer (about 5 mm) to the wound bed or peri-wound skin, and cover with an appropriate secondary dressing. Change daily at first; for drier wounds every 2 to 3 days, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

What HCPCS code applies?

A6248, hydrogel wound filler. A HCPCS code does not guarantee coverage or payment; confirm requirements with the payer. Coding and coverage
